The method

The rules, the tools, and the people we let near your paint.

The rules

Four constraints that protect the finish.

Most paint damage doesn't come from dirt. It comes from dirt being moved across paint the wrong way. Every rule below exists to stop that.

Rule 01

Flow, not pressure.

Our pressure washers are specified for volume of water rather than force: rinsing power that floats grit off the surface and carries it away, instead of driving it across the clear coat.

Why it mattersHigh-pressure tips are what lift badge edges, force water past window seals and chew delicate trim. Ours don't have the force to.
Rule 02

Two panels, then rinse.

A wash mitt is only ever as clean as the last panel it touched. Ours never crosses more than two before it goes back into the rinse bucket.

Why it mattersIt means the grit lifted off your door is never dragged the length of the quarter panel. This is the single biggest cause of swirl marks in a hand wash, and it's a discipline problem, not an equipment problem.
Rule 03

Fresh microfibre, constantly.

Crews are sent out with a deliberate surplus of towels, far more than a night's work requires, so they're swapped out early and often rather than folded to a clean side and pressed back into service.

Why it mattersA saturated or contaminated towel is a scratch waiting to happen. Surplus is cheaper than paint correction or leather repair, so we buy the surplus.
Rule 04

All of it by hand.

No spinning brushes, no automated equipment, nothing mechanical touching a painted surface. Every panel, every glass edge, every interior touchpoint is done by hand.

Why it mattersThe other three rules only mean something if a person is making the judgement call — when a mitt is done, when a panel needs another rinse, when something on the car needs to be left alone.
Wheels

Wheels get their own everything.

Wheels are the dirtiest thing on a car and the most damaging to touch afterwards. Nothing that goes near them ever goes near paint.

A wheel being foamed and cleaned with dedicated tools
  • One at a time. Each wheel is washed on its own, never as a set.
  • Their own brushes. Dedicated scrubbers for the face, the barrel and the lug seats.
  • Their own foam cannons. Kept off the paint kit entirely.
  • An iron-dissolving wheel cleaner when it's called for — usually performance cars and wheels that have gone a while, where baked-on brake dust is the real contaminant rather than road dirt.
Who we hire

The person holding the mitt is the equipment.

Genuine respect for cars is a stated hiring criterion at P1, weighted alongside experience, and every crew is led by an experienced supervisor. You can buy every tool on this page. What you can't buy is somebody who still cares whether the mitt is clean at 2AM.

The kit

What we buy and use.

No house-brand chemistry, no bulk mystery soap. If you want to look up what's going on your paint, here it is by name.
